Third telecom operator to be named on Nov 30

The winner of the licence for third telecom operator in Oman will be announced on November 30, according to reports. The winner was to be announced on September 4. In May this year, the Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRA) said that several companies, which include regional players, had expressed interest to participate in the bids for the third telecom operator’s license.
The deadline to receive the bids expired on May 1.
TRA stated that it is evaluating the proposals as per the procedures laid out in the information memorandum (IM) as part of the government’s keenness to increase competition in the telecommunications market and thereby improve the quality of services.
The Saudi Telecommunications Company (STC), Kuwait Zain and other operators told their respective regional stock markets that the bid includes a complete business plan, technical and financial plans along with a financial offer for the license.
According to IM, the qualified bidders will be shortlisted and announced by August 8, 2017, and the license winner will be announced on September 4, 2017.
