Wastewater projects in Bausher executed in several phases

MUSCAT: Haya Water project in Bausher is considered one of the largest projects that spreads out from Hamriya roundabout in Greater Muttrah until The Wave Muscat and covers the areas of Helat Al Sad, Wattayah, Qurum, Madinat Al Ilam, Madinat Al Sultan Qaboos, Hey Al Sarooj, Al Khuwair, Al Ghubrah, Al Athaiba and Athaiba waterfront.


The wastewater project in Bausher includes the construction of wastewater network with a total length of about 586 km, treated waste water distribution network with total length of about 90 km and fibre optic network of about 450 km.


There are nearly 12,272 residential units and governmental and commercial properties that were connected to the wastewater system until the end of 2016.


Said bin Rashid al Asmi, Projects General Manager, Haya Water, has ensured that the execution of the wastewater projects in Bausher is carried out in several phases to ensure parallel progress of the wastewater networks, sufficient capacity of the STP and urbanisation development.

Said spoke about Al Ansab STP Phase II Expansion Project and said that the capacity of Al Ansab STP will be increased to 125,000 cubic metres per day by the end of 2017.


It is also planned to increase the capacity up to 140,000 cubic metres per day by the end of 2020 after the completion of the third expansion phase.


It is worth mentioning that Haya Water has completed the first phase in 2010 with total capacity of 57,300 cubic metres per day, and it operates using Bio-Reactor Membrane technology. Al Ansab STP is considered one of the largest STPs around the world that uses this technology.


In addition, Al Asmi adds that Haya is currently working on the wastewater project in northern and southern Khuwair (B3b).


The project consists of wastewater network with total length of 34 km, treated wastewater network with total length of 12.5 km and fibre optic network with total length of 39 km.


This project serves 2,650 residential units and governmental and commercial properties. The project will be completed during the 4th quarter of 2018.


As for the rehabilitation project of the wastewater network and treated wastewater network in Madint Al Sultan Qaboos (B5), Said adds that the project is under progress and it will be completed in the 3rd quarter of 2017.


The project consists of wastewater network with total length of 32 km, treated wastewater network with total length of 5 km and fibre optic network with total length of 37 km.


This project serves 600 residential units and governmental and commercial properties.


Moreover, Haya Water is working on Athaiba Sea Outfall Project. The purpose of this project is to avoid any damages that may occur during emergency in case there is excess wastewater at the main pumping station in Athaiba.


This project is very important since it provides protection to environment, society and public and private properties through discharging extra water to the sea in accordance to environmental and health standards that are specified and approved by concerned authorities.


This sea outfall project starts from central pumping station in Athaiba to the sea with total length of 3.52 km (350 metres on land and 3.17 km into the sea). The project is expected to be completed during this year.


Al Asmi also spoke about Haya’s future projects in Bausher and said that the company will work to complete the wastewater networks in the areas of Al Ansab, Bausher, Gala, Industrial Gala and South Athaiba and Bausher Village.


The project will be floated in 2018. The total length of the wastewater network is 140 km, the total length of the treated wastewater network is 60 km.


In addition, one of Haya’s future projects is connecting the integrated services to approximately 1,800 residential units and governmental and commercial properties by 2020 in the areas of Al Khuwair 17/1 and 17/2.


The total length of the wastewater network is 66 km, the total length of the treated wastewater network is 8 km and total length of the fibre optic network is 88 km.


Moreover, the company aims to connect 502 residential units and governmental and commercial properties in Bausher Heights area by 2020 because of the population and urbanisation growth in this area.
