MUSCAT, May 28 - Pim Verbeek will continue as the head coach of the Oman national football team until 2020, the Oman Football Association announced on Monday. The Dutchman will announce the details of the ‘Red Warriors’ preparation for the Asian Cup in UAE next January, in a press conference on Wednesday. The Oman Football Association had appointed Pim Verbeek as the head coach of the national team in December 2016. Under him, Oman won the Arabian Gulf Cup 2018 in January this year when they defeated UAE 5-4 in a dramatic penalty shootout in the final.

Verbeek has earlier served as the assistant coach for South Korea national football team during the 2002 and 2006 Fifa World Cups. Under Verbeek, the Socceroos became the second country to qualify for the 2010 World Cup after a 0-0 draw against Qatar in June 2009, less than an hour after Japan had qualified. In 2010, Verbeek was appointed the national youth technical director for Morocco. His primary role was to identify and develop young talent for the Morocco national team, which has failed to qualify for the World Cup finals or the African Cup of Nations.
