Use of plastic in Halwa preparation illegal: MOCI

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) said that it has been following up reports in the media about the use of plastic in the transfer of Omani sweets from the boiler, which has invited criticisms from the public.

The ministry said that the use of plastic containers in the transfer of hot candy from the boiler directly to another plastic container is an individual behavior, but the practice is illegal and punishable under laws to ensure food safety and consumer protection.

The Ministry of Trade and Industry called on candy factories to focus on the use of containers made of pottery, glass, treated wood, and squids instead of using plastic containers, even if they have approved specifications, although there are small and medium-sized enterprises producing pottery with high quality and excellent designs.
