To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place... I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.”

These are words famously said by the renowned photographer Elliott Erwitt.

Photography is not just a form of self-expression but a presentation of all things you find intriguing. It is a form of art where you take reality and present to the audience an alternative fresh view into their own mundane worlds.

hours away. Giving us a picturesque view into these scenic getaways is Fredrick Edwards. A Manager working at a local engineering firm in Muscat has been living in this country for over 20 years and along with his full-time job, Fredrick uses his free time to explore the country, enjoy his hobby and through his lens, share with the world a glimpse of the beauty, that is Oman.

Fredrick has been an avid traveller and visiting various places local and abroad. On his trips, he got to witness things many others hadn’t had the opportunity to see and wanted to share his experiences with the world.

Photography became the perfect outlet for this, enabling him to capture the moment and giving his audience an opportunity to vicariously experience the landscapes he caught on film. Back when he was a university student, Fredrick used his weekends as an opportunity to ride and travel, the perfect way of escaping the monotonous hustle and bustle of city life.

This was the perfect chance to reconnect with nature and develop his interest in photography, he quotes “I experienced a realm beyond the verbal...” A simple camera became the device of choice that gave him the chance to capture the “visual Eloquence” of the surroundings that unravelled before him. His choice of camera has always been Canons, especially the 760D and 5DMark3.

International Traveller Magazine posted “Oman: The Middle East’s best-kept secret” stating that Oman may possibly be the hidden Gem of the Middle East, Fredrick reiterates this and agrees that Oman truly is a glorious marvel.

magnificent mountain peaks of the Al Hajjar mountains or the lush greenery of Jebel Akhdhar, just the geography of Oman ensures its place as any photographers dream providing unlimited inspiration.

One of his favourite places and a strong recommendation is the natural marine reserve at the Damaniyat Islands which he believes is one of the most stunning places in the country. It is one of the best places for a weekend getaway and perfect to photograph the colourful and diverse marine life. Finding inspiration is far from difficult with beautiful scenes and backgrounds in every corner of the country, whether it is the rugged backdrop of Yiti or the mystery and rich greenery of Salalah, Fredrick believes that in Oman, inspiration truly lies everywhere.
