They say when you are sure about what you want, the universe might just provide it even before you know. But most of the time we convey a mixed feeling — probably we are investing heavily on self-defeating self-talk. That is when we leave the universe confused.
Well, I had a little bit of my own experience recently. With a weakness for succulent plants but intrigued by wild flowers I came across a plant that spread out like a delicate green carpet with brilliant yellow small flowers.
Quickly, they were photographed and shared on social media. It wasn’t long before my cousin saw the pictures and clarified, “It is not a wild flower, but a succulent plant. Just like cactus, they don’t need much water.”
But to my dismay, the first day after the weekend saw the ground cleaned and cleared by gardeners who had tidied it up for the new week.
Some pieces of the plants remained on earth and others were scattered away, clearing the ground for jasmine shrubs. “I am sure the jasmine would not have minded sharing the ground with these little ones,” I thought.
That is when a friend appeared with a small paper cup meant for Omani kahwa. In a second upon requesting for the cup, the Omani coffee was gulped down and the cup handed over after being cleaned. A scoop of the soil from the ground and a small piece of the plant found a new home. A little bit of water and soon the plant was on the desk. “Just a bit of soil and the roots will find a way,” my cousin encouraged.
As the day progressed, the buds became more prominent and within an hour or so the flowers bloomed.
That is when another friend made an observation about the life of this plant. “It had to die first before it bloomed. Life is like that. Sometimes we have to go through difficult times before we can come into peace with what we deserve.”
‘To die before we bloom’. Yes, it is only when we are able to close a chapter are we truly able to start a new chapter in life.
There are situations where we do not want to make a change and then eventually you are thrown out into a situation where you have no choice but to swim across. But the choice is whether one wants to swim just to survive or to make a difference.
Make a difference, they did. I happened to meet two women who are both enterprising in their own way. One woman who took up graphic designing for her Bachelor degree and another woman with no formal training chose the business she was passionate about: event management.
One woman learnt graphics. Today she is a busy designer who does all her business via social media — Instagram and Facebook. As for the other woman, she opened her own event management office with encouragement from her husband and family.
Their businesses are thriving. They even support each other. As for the graphic designer, she plans to start her own company soon.
So the universe has been listening to them, giving them the right opportunity at the right time.
As for me, I have been gifted with a succulent plant which looks every bit ornamental. I’m still wondering what made me look at that part of the ground to find this indigenous plant. Universe must have been listening. Now, I am wondering what else I should have been and should be conveying?
