More than 30 people learned how to manage their lives at the ‘Turning Point’ session held at the Engineering Village on Wednesday.

The two-hour session, attended by people from both sexes and different age groups, was organised by the Engineering Village of Nizwa.

Mahmoud al Balushi, a specialist in the development of mental and intellectual abilities and personality development, presented the lecture.

The session began with a simple exercise in which participants could break barriers and communicate with each other. “People are created for a relationship and not to fight and disagree, irrespective of their nationality and colour,” he said.

To learn something, a person has to look for people higher than his level, he said.

“If you want to advance in your field or career, get to know people who are better than you, said Al Balushi, adding that “comparisons always destroy the self”.

According to him, for a person to reach his/her goals, the first thing is to have an intention. “Turn wishes into intentions.”

He also stressed upon intention, action and determination. “A person must persevere in his work till he/she gets the result.”

The methodology or strategy adopted to achieve task is equally important. A person has to decide what works for him.

The first stages of change, according to Al Balushi, is avowal. “You can’t force a person to change. The change should come from the person himself.”
