MUSCAT: The last date for receiving entries for the 3rd Water Research and Innovation Award is Thursday.


The award’s first and second sessions were a success.


The award has been instituted by The Research Council (TRC) and the Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science (SQHCCS) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.


TRC announced at the end of December that the deadline for applications will be extended till January 10 to give further chance for various groups to submit their applications via TRC website.


Applicants can apply for two categories: Scientific Publishing and Innovation. The total number of cash prizes awarded to the winners is RO 20,000.


The award for Scientific Publishing includes scientific papers published in journals related to the needs of the Sultanate in the field of water and includes two categories: PhD researchers and non-PhD researchers.


The Innovations Award is divided into Innovation category and young innovator category. Innovation category includes innovative models, products or services with operational advantages for individuals, research project teams, academic researchers, companies and small and medium enterprises.


The young innovator category is devoted for school students (grades 10-12) to raise awareness of water issues from an early age.


The value of the prize for both categories in this category is RO 16,000. In the category of innovation, RO 5,000 is for the winner of the first place, RO 4,000 for the second place, and RO 3,000 for the third place.


As for the Young Innovator Category for school students, RO 1,200 will be given to the winner of the first place, RO 1,000 for the second place, RO 800 for the third place. RO 500 will be given to 4th and 5th places each.


The Water Research and Innovation Award aims to enhance the role of scientific research, encourage and support innovative initiatives to find solutions to water issues and raise awareness of water issues in the Sultanate. — ONA
