Muscat, August 23 - Don’t keep valuables in vehicles parked outside and watch your surroundings when walking out of banks after withdrawing cash, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) has said.

“One needs to be careful when withdrawing large sums of money from banks. Watch out for people with suspicious behaviour,” said an ROP official.

“Money or valuables shouldn’t be carried in a manner that draws attention.”

The ROP advisory comes in the wake of arrest of three Arab nationals who broke into the car of a bank customer and fled with RO 10,000. The Criminal Investigation Department at Bausher caught them.

While warning against leaving valuables in vehicles, the ROP official said any suspicious behaviour should be reported to passersby or security personnel nearby.

He warned against keeping the car engine on for a quick visit to nearby shops or banks as thieves might drive away in these vehicles.

Such incidents were reported in the past. Two people were caught red-handed when they broke open the windowpane and made away with cash and cellphones. They were later recovered by the ROP.
