According to the Islamic belief, the first 10 days of the holy month of Ramadhan are the days of “Mercy of Allah” while the following ten days are “Forgiveness from Allah” and the last phase being “Salvation from hellfire”.

During these ten days which began on Monday, Muslims believe huge windows to the diverse lessons of values in life are kept wide open through the first phase of the holy month of Ramadhan.

“After the 10 days of mercy, this second phase is the most ideal time to seek forgiveness from the Lord for all the past sins and our actions out of sudden impulse and repent for all his sins”, says Moideen Moulavi, Khateeb, teacher, and a scholar.

The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “This is a month, the first part of which brings Allah’s Mercy, the middle of which brings Allah’s forgiveness, and the last part of which brings emancipation from the hellfire.” [Bukhari]

To seek Allah’s forgiveness and repent for sins in those days, beloved prophet used to recite Allahum-magh-fir-li dhunoobi Ya Rabbal Alameen; Rabbana Fagh-fir-lana dhunoobana wa kaf-fir-’anna sayyi-aatina wa ta-waf-fana ma-’al abraar. (Surah Al-Imran:193)

This special supplication means, ‘Our Lord! Forgive us our sins and remit from us our evil deeds, and make us die in the state of righteousness along with Al-Abrâr (those who are obedient to Allâh and follow strictly His Orders).

To attain this, the believers should recite and reflect on the Holy Quran during night and day, attend the Taraweeh prayers, remember God more often, sit in circles of knowledge and, for those who can pay umrah visit to the holy land. When one sins, one feels distant from God. That is why one might find it hard to read the holy book and come to the mosque. However, the obedient worshipper feels closer to God and wants to worship Him more, because he is not shy from his sins.
