TechCamp Oman 2019 aims to support students

MUSCAT, FEB 4 - With the aim to gain essential technology-driven skills for innovation and enterprise in the highly competitive market, the US Embassy in Oman, in collaboration with Knowledge Oman, the Information Technology Authority (ITA), and the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), is set to host a two-day practical and hands-on tech camp titled “Innovative Strategies for Future Entrepreneurs” from March 1 to 2 at the Knowledge Oasis Muscat.
TechCamp Oman initiative, to be organised first time in the country, aims to strengthen linkages between students, entrepreneurs, and businesses by focusing on the power of technology to solve real-world problems and drive economic growth. The programme will also emphasise a skills-based curriculum that addresses private sector needs and aims to ignite innovation, critical thinking, gaining skill set.
“The US Embassy in Muscat is proud to bring TechCamp to Oman as a way to connect aspiring entrepreneurs with technology experts from around the globe,” said Marc J Sievers, US Ambassador to Oman.

“TechCamp Oman aims to build attendees’ digital capacity to turn their ideas into reality. The US State Department has implemented the successful TechCamp model in more than 60 locations worldwide since the programme’s inception in 2010. We look forward to seeing the results of the two-day hands-on, interactive experience here in Muscat.”
This is the first time TechCamp is being organised in Oman and the event promises to gather world-class professional technology trainers under one roof and participants will have the opportunity to interact with world-class trainers to gain critical thinking skills, tech savvy, and the ability to innovate, survive, and thrive in the market. TechCamp is funded by the Bureau of International Information Programmes (IIP).
“We are honoured to be selected as the implementing partner of this event where a pool from the best of the best locally in Oman will be selected to attend, learn, and network with the best of the best globally. Technology is a major weapon in today’s global village and one must be trained in it diligently for a purposeful and smart use to reach the maximum”, said Tariq al Barwani, Founder and Chairman of Knowledge Oman. “TechCamp is reputed to train people across the world, and the association with Knowledge Oman is a matter of pride and success. We are happy that the motto of TechCamp Oman is in sync with our brand values at Knowledge Oman, which is to enlighten and empower the community through knowledge.”
TechCamp Oman is open to 50 participants who will be selected from the education and private sectors.
Aspiring entrepreneurs who want to use technology to increase their effectiveness, solve real-world problems, and drive economic growth are ideal participants for the event.
Registration is free for students and job-seekers until February 14.
