Teachers’ professional development and career advancement discussed

MUSCAT: The Education Council held a meeting under the chairmanship of Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal al Busaidy, Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court, Chairman of the Education Council. The meeting discussed, as part of its quest to qualify, train and empower teachers, a draft document of the Omani national framework for the teaching profession, which included the most prominent professional standards for the post of a teacher, as well as professional training, professional licenses, implementation mechanisms proposed for career advancement for teachers. The council approved the project and instructed the Ministry of Education to take appropriate action regarding its implementation.


Out of its interest in reviewing of legislation and regulations in force in the educational sector, the Council discussed a draft regulation for private schools, which took into account the latest developments in the field of private school education, which will be reflected on improving the quality of services provided in this vital sector. The council directed to take the necessary actions to implement the project of regulation.


The council discussed the memorandum of Omani Academic Accreditation Authority (OAAA) for the quality auditing of general foundation programs (GFP) in higher education institutions, which is built in its design and review on national standards to be used in developing the performance of these institutions, as well as its quality auditing and accreditation of the GFP offered by those institutions. The council instructed that all GFPs in higher education institutions in the Sultanate should undergo the quality auditing by OAAA. The council was briefed on a number of other reports and memoranda submitted to it from various entities and took appropriate decisions. — ONA
