MUSCAT, MAY 22 - A unique iftar gathering for non-Muslims to understand the religion through scholastic lectures was conducted by One Nation Conference and Events LLC at the Higher College of Technology (HCT) on Monday. “Islam always upholds human values and sets an example to others since its origin,” said Dr Wail al Harrasi, PDO employee and Oman English Radio presenter, who delivered the keynote address at the event attended by a large number of citizens and expatriates who wanted to know more about the religion.

Themed ‘‘Respect to Connect’’ this year, “Taste of Iftar”, a journey currently in its 5th year since its inception, is an annual event which takes place during the holy month. This year, there were more young volunteers who were all willing to help the society for a better tomorrow. The team, comprising Al Khatib al Rashdi, Humaid al Shueili, Khalfan al Shueili, Salem al Rashdi, Fatma al Harrasi and Alia al Harthi, was inspired by the advice of Oman’s late scholar Khalfan al Esri who had spent a good portion of his time streamlining the activities of the group for the benefits of the common public.

“Conducting this series of events has been a spiritual journey and it was all about sharing the joy of Ramadhan and flavours of Iftar where people from all walks of life came under one roof and talked and understood each other. We aim at spreading culture of volunteering as means to enhance human bonds and to build a better tomorrow,” said Al Khatib al Rashdi and Humaid al Shueili. “The best way to understand each other is to come together and engage ourselves in interacting with each other and involve in some team-building exercise in the backdrop of Ramadhan fasting,” they added. Oman Arabic daily and Oman Observer were the media sponsors of the event.
