By Sports Reporter — MUSCAT: Syria’s military team collected three points after a 3-0 win over Canada at the Seeb Sports Stadium in their Group D match to maintain group lead at the second CISM World Cup football championship. Syria opened the scoring in the second minute of the first half when striker Zakariya al Khadhour netted the ball from a powerful shot outside penalty box. After conceding first goal, the Canadian players retreated into their own half amid fierce attacks from Syria, however the Canadian goalkeeper managed to defend his goal until the 19th minute when Mohammed al Wakid headed the ball into the Canadian goal. Syrian pressure continued after the second goal but the Canadian goalkeeper’s good performance prevented a crushing loss. In the 32nd minute, Oman’s international referee Yaqoub Abdul Baqi indicated an indirect free kick for Syria after a foul by a Canadian defender. Syria’s Muwaid al Khouli slotted home from the kick for their third goal.
