April 23 - Muscat Municipality and the Directorate General of Information Technology, held a joint meeting with a private company to discuss the installation of mobile surveillance cameras in wadis and other open public areas to curb the cases of random dumping.

A statement from the Municipality said that despite its ongoing efforts, people continue to dump waste randomly at a number of locations in the city.

Muscat Municipality had earlier installed surveillance cameras in a number of sites in Seeb as a pilot step to help to control the practice of random dumping by monitoring the vehicles that throw waste in different areas of the state. Subsequently, legal proceedings were initiated against the offenders.

The Directorate General of Muscat municipality urged the truck owners to throw the waste only in the designated areas or face legal actions.
