By Zainab Al Nasseri — MUSCAT: March 8 - Within the framework of partnership between the government and private sector, an agreement for purchasing headphones and alarm devices was signed yesterday between the Omani Society for the Hearing Impaired (OSHI) and Occidental Petroleum Corporation (OXY Oman) at the headquarter of the Ministry of Social Development.  The agreement included supplying the deaf with hearing materials and devices worth RO 186,000. Steve Kelly, President and General Manager of Oxy Oman, said this significant step reflects the constant communication with the society within the Company’s social responsibility that is paid great attention from the very beginning.

“The devices included in the agreement are very necessary for the deaf people in order to live their lives like their normal counterparts,” he said, noting that the company will continue supporting such social projects. Sultan al Amri, Chairman of the OSHI, praised efforts made by both the ministry and the company to support the society’s activities. He mentioned that the generous funding of OXY covers more than 300 deaf people. It will also ease their life with others in the home. “The devices help the deaf contact with their surroundings as some are designed to send notifications through Bluetooth in case of baby crying or somebody knocking on the door. There are also safety devices that are very important for the deaf,” Al Amri explained.
