Sultanate’s tourism potential highlighted at London expo

LONDON: The Sultanate has concluded its participation in the World Tourism Market held in London from November 6 to 8. Oman’s delegation was headed by Maitha bint Saif al Mahrouqiyah, Under-Secretary of the MoT, with 20 Omani tourism organisations taking part in the prestigious event this year. A number of tourism-focused workshops, activities, official meetings, and media interviews were part of the exhibition. Maitha bint Saif al Mahrouqiyah participated in a World Summit for Tourism Ministers and Organisations Heads, which tackled a number of issues and challenges facing the world tourism industry, which was part of the exhibition. The meeting focused on the crucial role played by sustainable tourism, in order to achieve economic growth, and create job opportunities, in line with protecting the environment.


The first day of the exhibition witnessed a number of official meetings that were held in the Sultanate’s pavilion, involving international governmental delegations, investors, businessmen, and travel and tourism companies. The Under-Secretary was also interviewed by the media wherein she shed light on what to expect in terms of tourism experiences in Oman.


The Sultanate’s pavilion was immensely popular, with several visitors being fascinated by Oman’s environmental, geological and cultural diversity, as a number of specialists introduced visual presentations on the subject. Brochures and booklets marking Oman’s top tourism destinations were given to the visitors. The presence of private sector companies in the exhibition also played a major role in promoting Oman as an ideal tourism destination and reflected the collaboration between the private and public sectors in the Sultanate.

During the three days of the exhibition - 80 workshops that tackled a number of issues encompassing a variety of topics in the tourism sector, such as aviation, hotels, weddings, MICE, sports tourism, responsible tourism, and the role of social


media and travel technology were organised.


London’s WTM is one of the most highly anticipated international events as it is known for offering opportunities to meet with the world’s leading tourism experts, discussing the latest trends and updates in the tourism industry, and offering the chance to foster and grow business relationships.


In all, 20 tourism facilities from Oman participated in the WTM this year including: Al Faiha Tours, Sama Hotel in Jabal Al Akhdar, Mark Tours, Al Zahraa Travel and Tourism, Shangri La Barr Al Jissah, OAMC, Bahwan Travel, Oman Companies and Hotels group, Anantara Jabal Akhdar, Al Watania Travel and Tourism, Magic Arabia, Crown Plaza, Khimjis Travel and Tourism, Shangri La Hotels and Resorts, Al Baleed Resort Salalah, The Chedi Muscat, Oman Royal Opera House, Arabian Experience Office, and Golden Tulip.
