Sultanate’s population drops slightly by 1.2 pc

MUSCAT: The Sultanate’s population stood at 4,558,847 at the end of June, a decrease of 1.2 per cent compared with the previous month.


Expats number dropped by more than 6,000, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).


Muscat Governorate was the most populous governorate with nationals accounting for 35 per cent of the total governorate’s population.


The statistics show that the total Omani population stood at 2,054,594 constituting 54.9 per cent of the total population.


The number of expat population stood at 2,054,594 accounting for 45.1 per cent.


In the previous statistics, conducted in May this year, the population of Oman registered 4,614,822 of whom 2,500,120 were Omanis and 2,114,702 expats.


There were 964,018 expatriates living in Muscat compared with 519,844 nationals.


Expats also outnumbered nationals in Dhofar Governorate registering 251,797 against 209,564.


Likewise, in Al Buraimi Governorate there were 60,043 expatriates out of a total population of 114,995.
