Sultanate wins 8 ATMO awards

BERLIN: The Sultanate has won 8 awards as part of the 10th edition of the Arab Tourism Media Oscar (ATMO) awards, 2017.


Shaikh Salim bin Aufit al Shanfari, Chairman of Dhofar Municipality, was named the best government personality supportive of Arab tourism in 2017, Shaikh Salim bin Ahmed al Ghazali, won the best investor supportive of Arab tourism in 2017 award, and the ministry of tourism won the award for fastest growing tourism authority in 2017.


The Public Authority for Radio and TV won the award for best media organisation supportive of Arab and local tourism, Oman newspaper won the award for best Arab newspaper in tourism coverage, Salam Air won the award for best airlines supportive of Arab tourism, Salalah Tourism Festival claimed the award for best Arab tourism festival while Muscat city was named the best Arab city for tourism.


The winners were announced by Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), on the sidelines of the ITB Berlin 2018.


Overseen by the Arab Center for Tourism Media (ACTM) the prizes are awarded under the supervision of a panel of academics and journalists specialised in the study of content, press coverage and adherence to professional standards.


Other awards presented at the ceremony included: best specialised journalist, best female writer, best television show, best radio show, best Arab tourist magazine, best Arabic newspaper interested in local and Arabic tourism, best documentary tourist programme, best Arab news agency, best photo, best promotional campaign for local tourism. — ONA
