Dec 9: For the first time, Oman will host an international event of its kind organised by the Condé Nast International Luxury Conference, parental company of Vogue, the globally acclaimed fashion magazine, under the auspices of Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on April 5 and 6 at the Shangri-La’s Barr al Jizza Hotel and Resort.


It was announced at a special gathering on Friday organised by Suzy Menkes, International Vogue Editor and curator of the Conference, and the event’s local coordinator Maha al Lamki, a leading Omani interior designer and architect representing M Events.


Hundreds of international media and crews will be beaming Oman live on their respective media outlets during the two consecutive days as globally acclaimed figures will be sharing space with the local fashion connoisseurs.


“The Condé Nast International Luxury Conference 2017, the two-day session, will explore the vast reach of 21st century luxury while a seminar entitled ‘Mindful Luxury: Navigating the New Silk Routes’ will be based on the Oman’s position at the nexus of this global trade, offering a unique perspective that encompasses India to the Far East, Europe to Arabia”, Suzy Menkes told the Observer.


“Muscat, in the Sultanate of Oman, is where international trade routes have historically converged. From its unique vantage point over three seas, it is still today the perfect location from which to explore the new silk routes”, she added.


Suzy Menkes is a fashion’s leading authority. As International Vogue Editor, her articles and reports appear on 20 international Vogue websites in 13 languages, reaching a total audience of 38.2 million. An enthusiast for social media, she has over 280,000 followers on Instagram. She invented the luxury conference concept in Paris in 2000,


“We are happy to have Oman selected to be the next destination of such an international event where multitude of fashion designers, Vogue icons and other who is who in the fashion world will descend down on Oman during these days of the conference and seminar”, Maha al Lamki told the Observer.


Amal al Raisi, Founder and Creative Director of Dar al Aseel; Deena al Juhani Abdul Aziz, Editor-in-Chief, Vogue Arabia; Elie Saab, Lebanese designer; Frederic Malle, Perfume publisher, New York; Giambattista Valli, French designer; Manish Arora, Indian designer; Sybilla, Spanish designer; Noor Fares, Foudner, Noor Fares Fine Jewellery, London and Lebanon; and James Lima, Hollywood film director, are some of the top notches from fashion world who will address the gathering.


The previous conferences, in Seoul, Korea this year, and last year in Florence were immensely successful for the participation and for the feedback from across the world.
