Muscat: The Sultanate will observe next week for the first time the Oman Physical Activity Day. The celebration will be held under the auspices of Sheikh Sa'ad Mohammed Al Mardhoof Al Sa'adi, Minister of Sport Affairs at the As’sahwa Public Gardens.

The agenda will include spectrum of activities on the significance of practicing physical activities as daily basis, in addition to physical activity traditional sports.

Assigning the second of October of every year to mark the physical activity on a national level emphasizes the Sultanate’s insight of the significance of the physical activity and role in maintaining health.

The event, which engages a wide range of participation from government and private institutions, is targeted to all community members from both citizens and residents except those advised of refraining from any specific stressful physical activity.

The day aims at promoting positive life styles by developing physical activity-promoting- policies by activating partnership among the relevant sectors and individuals, as well as encouraging the integration of physical activity into everyday lives.

It should be noted that similar programs will be held in the Sultanate’s different Governorates to mark the Oman Physical Activity Day.

Notably, children and adolescents should get 60 minutes of physical activity daily while adults should practice for half an hour in order to enhance their health and protect themselves from chronic diseases.
