MUSCAT, OCT 10 - While the ongoing Oman Health Expo is a platform for the participant hospital groups to highlight their facilities to woo patients, for Oman it is a chance to raise pitch for more investment in the healthcare sector.

Speaking to Observer on the sidelines of the expo, Dr Waleed Khalid al Zadjali (pictured), President of Oman Medical Association said that the exhibition and conference is being conducted at a time when the health sector is making rapid changes.

“It is not just that the latest trend in healthcare services, equipment and technology are showcased at the exhibition, discussions are also being made about the possibilities of investments in Oman’s health sector”, said Dr Waleed.

Oman has ample opportunities in healthcare investments as result of the two ambitious medical cities coming up in Muscat and Salalah, he said.

Presently, the ministry of health meets its medical needs including medicines and equipment through imports.

“If the ministry can get investors to set up pharmaceutical companies in the Sultanate, production of drugs indigenously will help make them cheaper”, Dr Waleed said.

About 200 exhibiting partners from 18 countries are participating in the 7th edition of Oman Health Exhibition and Conference currently progressing at the New Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre.

The three-day exhibition is expected to connect multiple stakeholders, government officials, international experts, and private organisations through a meaningful interaction and knowledge sharing within the parameters of local and global health agenda.

Adding more value to the exhibition are the national pavilions of Germany, Thailand and Iran apart from India Health Plus pavilion, comprising top medical consultants and specialists from more than 30 leading hospitals.

Rajesh Kunte, partner of Epitome Medical Tourism, Mumbai, India said that the ever-growing demand of the world today enables the company to expand its network.

He said his group offers medical services to NRI clients and foreign patients from all over world.

“All the services are offered in various metropolitan cities in India”, he said.

Omid Rouhani from Shiraz Central Hospital in Iran said hundreds of patients from Oman are treated at different hospitals in the Republic.

“Shiraz is a new modern and well equipped hospital in the heartland of Fars province in Iran and established with a purpose of organising and reducing the levels of treatments and diagnostic shortages to the minimum”, he said.

A large number of consultants from different specialties, such as orthopaedics and joint surgery, neurosurgery, breast cancer and infertility, cosmetic surgery, hair transplant, skin care, heart surgery and tumours treatment are at the exhibition to provide free medical consultation to the visitors.

Free medical consultations with doctors and medical experts are also being offered, along with free check-ups, in some cases, at the exhibition hall.

“Many people are approaching us for advices for advanced treatment. Some of them are coming with documents of diagnosis. We guide them appropriately”, said Dr Nitin D Wadaskar, of Alexis Hospital in Nagpur, India.
