Sultanate celebrates World Post Day, launches new service from Oman Post

MUSCAT: The Sultanate, represented by the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), on Tuesday celebrated the World Post Day under the patronage of Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications.


The Minister of Transport and Communications inaugurated the ‘Send Service’, a new service provided by ‘Oman Post’, which provides technical solutions enabling the user to send and receive materials from anywhere within the Governorate of Muscat as an initial stage by using GPS without the need for a permanent postal address.


Said bin Hamdoon al Harthy, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications for Ports and Maritime Affairs, in his speech said that the Sultanate’s celebration of the World Post Day is to raise awareness of the importance of postal sector and postal services for individuals and businesses. He pointed out that the Sultanate has a long postal history since 1856, as correspondence started through postal service providers. The first post office was established in the Governorate of Muscat in 1864, and the Sultanate continued its efforts in providing domestic and international postal services.

Abdulmalik bin Abdul Karim al Balushi, CEO of Post Oman, showed a presentation on “Future of Post” in which he reviewed the future of post in the world, which is heading towards new horizons and new products and services, most notably e-commerce. The Ministry of Transport and Communications and its partners in postal sector mark the World Postal Day, which falls on October 9th each year, aims to raise awareness of the role of mail and its importance to the people, as well as an opportunity to highlight the offered products and services. — ONA
