Sultanate at biodiversity conference in Mexico

MUSCAT: The Sultanate represented by the ministry of environment and climate affairs took part in the thirteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 13) and the eighth meeting of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (COP MOP 8) and the second Conference of the Parties that works as the Meeting of the Parties for the Nagoya Protocol (COP-MOP 2). The activities were held during December 2 to 17 in Cancun, Mexico.


The Sultanate was represented at the meetings by Engineer Sulaiman Nasser al Akhzami, Director-General of Nature Conservation and Saleh bin Nagmoosh al Saadi, Head of Biodiversity Development at the ministry of environment and climate affairs. The meetings brought together 10,000 participants, including representatives of the countries parties, observer countries, international organizations and others interested. The participants negotiated agreements and commitments that give impulse to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity as well as the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and the Aichi goals.
