Sultanate at Berlin ITB from March 8

MUSCAT: The Sultanate, represented by the Ministry of Tourism, will begin from March 8, Wednesday, its participation at the five-day ITB Berlin (Internationale Tourismus-Borse Berlin). The Sultanate’s delegation, led by Ahmed bin Nasser al Mehrzi, Minister of Tourism (pictured), comprises officials of the Ministry of Tourism and representatives of 38 tourism organisations and Oman Air. The Minister of Tourism will attend the opening ceremony and the associated events alongside with ministers of tourism, chairmen of public tourism organisations, senior officials and experts at the United National World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).


The delegation will also attend the ITB international conference, ITB hospitality day and other visits and meetings.


The Sultanate, represented by the Ministry of Tourism and Oman Air alongside with the Omani tourism organisations are keen on taking part in the annual ITB, which is one of the biggest specialised travel and tourism exhibition in the world.


The event provides an ideal opportunity to review the latest developments in the global tourism industry and promote for the Sultanate as a hub for tourists and tourism investments.


The Ministry of Tourism’s participation in such international forums and gathering is part of the efforts made by the ministry to promote the Omani tourism potentials and products.


It is also an opportunity to showcase the latest tourism services, projects and installations in the Sultanate. It also helps in achieving a number of main aims, such as encouraging tourism investment in the Sultanate and raise awareness of Oman Tourism Strategy 2040.


It should be noted that the five-day ITB, an annual event held in Berlin, is the biggest specialised tourism exhibition.


The first three days of the exhibition are dedicated fore events, agreements and meetings among official delegations and exhibitors. During the last two days, the exhibition is opened for the public and tourists. About 175,000 visited ITB 2016 as they viewed the tourism products displayed by 10,096 exhibitors representing 186 countries around the world. — ONA
