The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has instituted an award for the ‘Most Innovative Factory’ as part of the celebration of Omani Industry Day, which falls on February 9. The day commemorates the visit of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos to Al Rusayl Industrial Estate in 1991. Winners of the Sultan Qaboos Award for Industrial Excellence 2017-18, besides winners of the previous editions will be honoured on February 11 at the Sheraton Hotel. On the occasion, Dr Ali bin Masoud al Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry, will meet industrialists to discuss the challenges facing them and the need to increase the contribution of industrial sector to the GDP.
The manufacturing sector is one of the initiatives of the national economic diversification programme, ‘Tanfeedh’. The ministry will hold a preparatory seminar on Thursday at the Sheraton Hotel under the auspices of Ahmed bin Hassan al Dheeb, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Industrialists have been invited to take part in the seminar and discuss with the under-secretary the challenges facing industrial sector and review the draft of the new industrial strategy. — ONA
