MAIDEN MEETING: Board meeting discusses work mechanism and preparations for the presentation of 2017 award


MUSCAT: The Board of Trustee of Sultan Qaboos Award for Culture, Arts and Literature held its first meeting on Thursday under the chairmanship Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal al Busaidy, Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at his office in Muscat.


Sayyid al Busaidy welcomed the members at the beginning of the meeting, wishing them success in the coming tasks, hoping for collaboration of efforts in a bid to upgrade the precious award to achieve its goals and the Royal vision of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos since its inception.


The meeting reviewed the history of the award, its fields, the winners and the accompanying cultural events and media campaigns during previous sessions.


The meeting discussed the board’s responsibilities, and the work mechanism in the future in preparation for the sixth session of 2017 Year Award, allocated for Arab intellectuals, in three areas, namely the economic studies in the culture branch, architectural design in the arts branch and literary criticism in the arts branch, by developing the general requirements for all areas, application mechanism and other requirements.


Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court issued a decision to name members of the Board of Trustees.


The decision included a set of tasks and functions entrusted with the board, including the award general policy and means of development.


Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal al Busaidy is Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr Abdulmunim bin Mansour al Hasani, Information Minister, as Deputy Chairman and Habib al Riyami, Secretary-General of the Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science as Secretary of the board.


The members of the trustee board are as follows: Dr Abdul Salam al Masdi, from the Republic of Tunisia, Mohamed Yusuf al Aqeed from the Arab Republic of Egypt, Dr Mohammed bin Ali al Balushi, academic at Sultan Qaboos University and Dr Nasser bin Hamad al Taeei, Adviser of Board of Directors of the Royal Opera House. — ONA
