Suhar industry executives to participate in course on hazardous waste responses

Around 25 industry executives from around Suhar’s industrial hub are taking part in a course on Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) organised by Polyeco Gulf LLC, the Omani subsidiary of Polyeco Group, a leading international provider of marine environmental protection services.


The 40-hour HAZWOPER training course has been specifically designed for HSE Managers, Environmental Managers and Experienced Environmental Engineers, involved in clean-up operations, emergency response operations, and storage, disposal, or treatment of hazardous substances and waste or uncontrolled hazardous waste dump sites. It aims to familiarise them with the main health and safety principles and to provide a thorough overview of how to perform effectively when managing hazardous waste. The course has been structured in line with US OSHA requirements.


Conducting the training on behalf of Polyeco Gulf are Eleni Malliarou and Manolis Dimitrikakis, both hazardous waste management experts, along with Mahmoud Abd-El Salam, Hazardous Waste Operation Manager.


The main goal of the training is to familiarise participants with the safety training requirements for workers likely to be exposed to hazardous waste as defined by OSHA 1910.120 and train them on Regulations, Safety Principles, Communications of Hazards, Planning & Organization, Haz ID, Toxicology, Ionizing, Respiratory, Meters and Instrumentation, Chemical Protective, Heat Stress, Medical Surveillance, Fire Protection, Confined Space, Handling Drums, Sampling & Packaging, Decontamination, Emergency, Packaging in accordance to IMDG/ADR regulations and Hazardous waste export in compliance with the Basel Convention.
