Suhar, Al Salam to tussle for Ministry’s Volleyball Shield

Muscat, May 7 - Defending champion Al Salam will take on Suhar in the final of the Ministry’s Volleyball Shield Championship at the main hall of the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex on Tuesday. The match will kick off at 6 pm under the auspices of Shaikh Saad bin Mohammed al Saadi, Minister of Sports Affairs, in the presence of Shaikh Bader al Rawas, Chairman of Oman Volleyball Association, dignitaries, top officials at the ministry and representatives of different sports associations and committees. Seeb will play Bahla in the third-place play-off match.


Al Salam and Suhar will be clashing for the second time after the Omantel Volleyball League final.


Al Salam will be looking to annex their third title while Suhar are aiming for their second triumph.


Suhar secured their place in the final after they beat Seeb 3-2 in the semifinal with the scoreline 27-25, 25-23, 25-16, 22-25,15-09.


Al Salam won their round of 16 and quarterfinal matches as Mirbat and Bidiya clubs did not attend the match. They booked their spot in the final as they defeated Al Kamil W’al Wafi 3-0. The scoreline was 25-13, 25-19, 25-17.

Suhar reached the quarterfinals directly and they beat Qurayat 3-0 in the semifinal.


The final match is undoubtedly expected to be a treat for the fans as well, as Suhar and Al Salam are the two best teams in Oman volleyball at the moment.


Saham had clinched the first, second and third edition of the Ministry’s Basketball Shield Championship in 2012, 2013 and 2014 respectively. Suhar were crowned the champions in 2015 while Al Salam were the winners in 2016 and 2017.


As many as 13 clubs took part in this year edition of the Ministry’s Volleyball Shield Championship namely Al Kamil W’al Wafi, Bahla, Al Mudhaibi, Ibri, Bidiya, Seeb, Salalah, Al Salam, Mirbat, Al Nasr, Jalaan, Qurayat and Suhar.
