Students learn weaving, embroidery in Samayil workshop

NIZWA, Jan 23 - A workshop is being held for female students on textile production and embroidery in Samayil. The programme has been organised in cooperation between Ministry of Education, represented by National Center for Vocational Guidance in the Department of Studies and Technical Support, and the General Authority for Craft Industries represented by the Training and Production of Textile and Embroidery Center in Samayil.
Eleven students from Sorour Primary School and Umm Hani Primary School are participating in the three-week programme.
It imparts skills and live training on weaving. The programme is aimed at reviving professions and craft industries, developing student talent and generating business ideas.
It aims at developing craft products using modern designs and colours. Faiyqah bint Abdullah al Rahbi, Supervisor, Vocational Guidance Department at the Directorate of Education in Al Dakhiliyah, said: “The programme involved training in textile production using both traditional and modern equipment.”
It also included sorting and assembling textile threads as well as decorative painting.
