MUSCAT: The State Council gives high priority to dissemination of accurate information about governance in Oman. It also upholds that a strong nation needs its citizens, including its young people and students, to be rightly informed and involved, to become responsible citizens.

To facilitate this, it has in place a student awareness programme, which allows academic institutions to coordinate, and organise visits to the State Council. On Thursday, the Council welcomed 35 students from the College of Law at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU).

The purpose of such familiarisation visits is to enable the students to learn more about the Council’s role and its work and view the venue where the draft laws, which reflect the need of the nation, are deliberated and approved.

The guided tour by Abdullah bin Saif Mohamed al Sibani, Manager of the Culture, Information and Tourism Committee, explained to the students how the Council functions and its relevance to residents’ lives and the impact it makes across the Sultanate. The students explored the cutting-edge technology of the Council. Ahood, through her presentation, displayed the role and strengths of the Council and a diverse range of topics, including rules and laws relating to governance, the two councils and their differences and role. By learning about the Council and how it works, the students realised the crucial elements of Omani governance.
