Stroke unit opens at Sohar Hospital

The Ministry of Health (MoH) has recently opened a stroke unit at Sohar Hospital. The unit was officially opened under the auspices of Muhana bin Saif al Lamki, Governor of North Batinah, in the presence of Dr Sultan bin Ya’rub al Busaidi, adviser at MoH. The stroke unit, which includes eight beds, is equipped with the required medical equipment based on global quality standards. Since its actual operation from January 8, the unit has received and provide the necessary service to 126 patients, three of them have been treated and fully recovered.


Dr Majid bin Sultan al Muqbali, Director of Sohar Hospital, in his opening speech stressed on the keenness of Ministry of Health in launching stroke units in order to improve the health system that ensures complete health service to those who have suffered a stroke.


Dr Amal al Hashmi, neurology consultant and the head of central stroke unit at Khoula Hospital, pointed out to the Ministry’s efforts in establishing stroke units to provide better and advanced treatments in this field including Tissue Plasminogen Activator — TPA.


Shaikh Ali bin Ahmed al Shamsi, Wali of Suhar, officials at the Directorate General of Health Services in North Batinah, municipal council members and MoH officials attended the ceremony.
