Steps to safeguard institutions from e-threats discussed

MUSCAT: The Information Technology Authority (ITA) on Tuesday organised a seminar for Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) on ‘Safeguarding of Vital Institutions against e-Threats’. The seminar targeted decision makers and CEOs of vital infrastructure institutions in the Sultanate and relevant government bodies to enhance the Sultanate’s efforts in cybersecurity and to boost the security of national institutions.
The seminar was presided over by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Secretary General of the Foreign Ministry, who explained that the seminar tackles the new challenges faced by the world in the Sultanate and the region to address cybercrime, adding that the world is heading towards e-connection in various areas.
He told journalists that the seminar tackles the best practices to deal with cybercrime to ensure the protection of basic facilities and programmes and development plans, in addition to protecting users of modern technologies.
Tahir bin Salim al Amri, Executive President of the Central Bank of Oman (CBO), explained that the seminar discussed some of the experiences and developments in the banking sector.
The seminar included a number of working papers that discussed the IT’s main challenges and threats that may be faced by the infrastructure institutions and vital sectors in the Sultanate in the field of cybersecurity, measures, precautions and solutions to deal with cyber risks and identify vulnerabilities and gaps in infrastructure and vital sectors. — ONA
