State Council all set to host science, diplomacy forum

MUSCAT: Dr Yahya bin Mahfoudh al Mantheri, Chairman of the State Council, will inaugurate the Regional Forum of Parliamentarians in the Field of Science and Diplomacy, officially hosted by the Sultanate and organised by the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ISESCO) in cooperation with the State Council on Monday.


The Assistant Secretary-General for Media and Public Relations, Abdullah bin Saleh al Buraiki, confirmed that the Council has completed its preparations for the launch of the forum.


He pointed out that a working group is dedicated to carry out the task of preparing the forum.


He explained that the forum includes several working sessions that will discuss important topics with the participation of a group of parliamentarians, experts and specialists from a number of Arab countries to achieve the objectives of the forum aimed at enhancing the role of Arab parliamentarians in the development of legislation and policies in support of science and technology.


Arab countries through the optimal recruitment of science diplomacy in addition will seek to strengthen the links between the scientific institutions in these countries, and the development of community participation in the issues of science and innovation, which reflects positively on the contribution of these areas to achieve the goals of sustainable development.


Dr Amina al Hajri, Director-General of ISESCO, expressed her thanks and appreciation to the Sultanate for hosting this important regional forum which is being held with the participation of the heads of committees on science and technology in parliamentary councils in a number of Arab countries.


She highlighted the role of the forum in encouraging Arab parliaments to move forward in promoting science, technology and innovation and activate their role in the progress of the countries of the region.
