State Council deputy chief receives Canadian official

MUSCAT: Dr Suad bint Mohammed Suleiman al Lawatiyah, Deputy Chairperson of the State Council, on Tuesday received Rosemary McCarney, Canada Ambassador and Permanent Representative to United Nations and an activist in human rights, economic development, NGOs, woman, maternity and childhood issues.


During the meeting, the State Council Deputy Chairperson reviewed the social, political and developmental achievements made by the Omani woman under the Royal care of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos.


She pointed out that His Majesty the Sultan has allocated October 17  of each year as The Omani Woman Day, to empower her in the different scientific and practical fields.


She also gave an overview about the State Council and its role in supporting the institutions of the Sultanate by practicing its legislative and oversight roles. The meeting covered a number of other issues of mutual interest and means of enhancing bilateral relations.


On her turn, the Canadian official expressed her delight to visit the Sultanate and view the progress made by the Sultanate in various fields.


The meeting was attended by Nashia bint Saud al Kharousiyah, member of the State Council Office.— ONA
