SALALAH, Nov 13 - Sanitary Drainage Services Company (SSDC) read out major achievements and upcoming projects on the occasion of the company’s 20th anniversary celebration held at Salalah Rotana Resort on Monday.

Ghali Almasashli, CEO of the SSDC, read out the company’s 20-year journey in his compact 20-minute presentation in which he dealt with the successful handling of wastewater through proper treatment and making it available for garden and farm irrigation.

The event was held under the auspices of Sayyid Mohammed bin Sultan bin Hamoud Al Busaidy, Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar. Present on the occasion were important dignitaries and major stakeholders of the SSDC.

For Almasashli one of the major achievements of the SSDC was 85 per cent Omanisation while doing 900 km length of sewerage network and setting up of 31 main and sub pumping stations.

“The sewer service coverage ratio reached 90 per cent of the concession area in Salalah City as well as 70 per cent of the charts developed while the company aims to cover 95 per cent of the city by 2020.”

All these works could be completed in two phases at Raysut with a capacity of 35,000 cubic metres of water per day. The work at Jarziz had to be completed on a priority basis due to underground reservoir that feeds drinking water to Salalah city.

The SSDC also achieved the completion of Part I and II of the rehabilitation and development of water treatment networks in Salalah. They were important projects as they involved replacement of some the pipes and expansion and construction of additional lines. It also involved setting up of water tanks for the development new networks including one at Al Baleed Resort.

Almasashli called the journey important that started in 1997 by the wholly government owned entity of the Sultanate. The Salalah Sanitary Drainage Services Company, according to him, is in the process to upgrade Salalah’s drainage facility from existing 35,000m3 per day to 54,000m3 by 2020.

“We are coming out with high quality water ozone and sustainable disinfectants. The network expansion has already been planned and we are in a stage of awarding new projects,” Almasashli said while commenting on expansion plans of the SSDC.
