By Kabeer Yousuf — MUSCAT: Feb. 24 - Beleaguered Indian cricketer S Sreesanth, who was embroiled in the spot-fixing scandal during the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2013, said he is optimistic about the Supreme Court of India’s verdict on his ban by the BCCI which is expected soon. Speaking to the Observer on the sidelines of a private event, the right-arm medium-pace bowler said that truth will come out one day and his innocence will be proved.  “I am quite confident that my innocence will be proved and the Supreme Court will exonerate me. I still have a prosperous career ahead.”

Last month, the tainted India pacer was dealt a huge blow when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) denied him an NOC to play in the Scotland Cricket League. According to a report, the BCCI refused to give Sreesanth the NOC because of the ban imposed on him for the spot-fixing. Sreesanth, who arrived in Oman two days ago for a private function, was quite impressed with the support that Oman has been giving to the sport and the natural grounds where youngsters practised. “I have been to two of the cricket grounds in Oman and they are well-maintained for the youngsters to practise the game. Besides, it is an inspiring scene to see that cricket is gaining ground among the local Omani youth.”

One of the more talented swing bowlers in the recent past, Sreesanth was the second cricketer from Kerala after Tinu Yohannan to play for India.

He was proving his prowess as an international cricketer when he was arrested during the 2013 IPL along with Rajasthan Royals team-mates Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan for allegedly conspiring with bookmakers.
