MUSCAT: Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) will organise the first edition of the International Conference on Frankincense and Medicinal Plants: Recent Advances in Research and Industry during October 30 to November 1.

The conference is part of the growing interest in the discovery of new medicines and products derived from medicinal plants in general, and frankincense trees in particular, strengthening the process of linking the academic community to industry and highlighting developments in these areas.

The conference seeks to provide an environment conducive to the exchange of knowledge and experience between specialists and researchers in the field of medicinal plants and frankincense, and to strengthen relations between producers and consumers of natural products around the world.

The first theme of the conference will revolve around the traditional use of medicinal plants, classification, horticulture and harvesting, and methods of preserving frankincense trees and medicinal plants.

The other theme is the chemical, biological and health aspects of medicinal plants.

The conference is accompanied by a range of activities, including: an exhibition dedicated to the conference stakeholders, such as those producing medical and cosmetic products derived from frankincense and medicinal plants.

There is an opportunity for companies and interested parties to participate in this exhibition and benefit from the international expertise in the conference.

The opportunity is also available for student companies and start-ups in the field to showcase their experiences and their products in this framework.
