MUSCAT: Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) on Wednesday signed a research contract with a delegation of the United Nations Population Fund (UNPFA), the regional bureau for the GCC States on ‘comparative study between Convention on the Elimination of All Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and Omani Legislations’. The study comes in response to a desire by the Woman Affairs Department at the Directorate-General of Family Development to conduct a comparative study between CEDAW and Omani Legislations, Dr Rashid al Balushi, a national expert, will carry out this study.

The study aims at activating the final remarks on the 2nd and 3rd national reports on CEDAW, revising the national laws and legislations to ensure that they are consistent with the agreement. The expert will revise the articles of the convention and compare them to similar texts at the national laws and legislations. He will shed light on the areas that are not in line with the articles of the Convention. The expert, who is expected to launch the study during the Omani Women’s Day 2018, will provide solutions to address these areas.
