SQU ranked among top 50 ‘Generation Y’ universities

MUSCAT: Sultan Qaboos University is ranked in the top 50 “Generation Y” Universities in the World in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings, published on April 5, 2017. The “Generation Y” Universities in the World is a subset of the 2017 THE Young University Rankings, for young universities established between 1986 and 1999. SQU is among 151-200 band of best young universities globally in 2017. In the World University Rank 2016-2017 category, THE places SQU in the 601-800 band.

According the, “Generation Y” institutions excel when it comes to internationalisation, with the highest average proportion of international students when compared with the “Generation X” and “Millennial” groups, as well the cohort of institutions founded in the immediate aftermath of the Second World War. Sultan Qaboos University was established in 1986, when there were only 500 students. There are now more than 18,000 students. Between 2010 and 2015, SQU recruited students from 38 countries, while academics hailed from 69 nations. The institution also collaborates with universities across the world; it has agreements with universities in Asia, Europe, Australasia, North America and South America.
