MUSCAT: Sultan Qaboos University and the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE) agreed on enhancing collaboration further in areas of mutual interest including research, innovation and entrepreneurship, training and the organisation of events. A letter of understanding in this regard has been signed today by Dr Rahma Ibrahim al Mahrooqi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Sultan Qaboos University and Hilal al Hasani, CEO of the PEIE.

The letter of understanding envisages furtherance of the mutual interest of the two organisations in the fields of education, training, research and consultancy and a contribution to increased institutional cooperation. Both SQU and PEIE agreed to explore opportunities to collaborate in the areas of mutual interest including research, innovation and entrepreneurship, training and the organisation of events.

The PEIE seeks to support the industrial projects in Oman through linking them to various research centres to enrich knowledge in the industrial sector and to maximise the benefits of cooperation with the research institutions including universities, laboratories and scientific centres. The National Business Centre established by the PEIE in the Knowledge Oasis Muscat is a national initiative that offers promising Omani entrepreneurs a platform to develop their business ideas and to advance them into growing ventures. The Centre attempts to become the premier platform for Omani entrepreneurs by providing business development support and guidance, training and mentoring, access to markets and industry experts, state-of-the-art and fully equipped office space. Hence the decision to further enhance cooperation between SQU which is the premier higher education and research institution, expected to boost research, knowledge transfer and entrepreneurship in the Sultanate.
