MUSCAT: Sultan Qaboos University started its preparations to organise in the much-awaited event “Linking Oman’s Higher Education Institutions with Public and Private Sectors” scheduled to be held from May 7 to 9, 2017. Dr Rahma al Mahrooqi, SQU’s Deputy Vice Chancellor for Postgraduate Studies & Research, held a meeting with the working teams at the university, which will be involved in organising event at new premises of Oman Convention and Exhibition Center.  During the meeting, a number of issues including the elements that can be exhibited by all SQU’s units and departments, the facilities that they have, and the services they can offer to the society as a whole, were discussed.

This event will allow SQU and all other higher education institutions that wish to participate to present themselves to the public and private sections as well as the society in general and to demonstrate their capabilities and to encourage the various sectors to utilise their expertise and accumulated experience through the years for consultancy and research purposes. In addition to higher education institutions, the event will also feature the industry, especially the following sectors: logistics, tourism, manufacturing, mining, fisheries, ICT, banking, hydrocarbons, and SMEs.  Ministries and research centres within them will also take part in the proposed event.

The idea of organising this event came to bridge the gap between higher education institutions and the industry with its various sectors; and to establish connections between institutions, researchers, the industry and ministries.  The society’s input into academic programs and research projects is vital for the development of these institutions as well as for the further development of the society itself.  It is necessary to strengthen ties and communication between universities and colleges and the various sectors, in order to study the challenges faced by the society and to come up with solutions to problems encountered by its different sectors.

Institutions interested in taking part in the event and displaying their capabilities, expertise and facilities may contact Ahmed Rashdi, the coordinator of the office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Postgraduate Studies & Research, by telephone 24142111.
