SALALAH, MArch 7  -

The waiting time for renal wash for kidney patients in Dhofar has decreased sharply with the installation of 10 new dialysis machines at Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah.

The new machines, according to Dr Khalid al Mushekhi,

Director-General of Health Service in Dhofar, are part of the Ministry of Health’s continuous attention to health services provided to citizens and residents.

“This will contribute to reducing the suffering of patients and their families by cutting the waiting time as well as access to service in the morning and evening as the dialysis units are currently available 24 hours six days a week. With the new addition the dialysis services will also be available from 7.30am to 10pm as the schedule will be re-launched from March 10,” he said.

With the new installations the number of dialysis machines at the hospital has gone up to 32. Out of these 32 machines, 27 are being used for general renal cases and the rest for are used isolation cases. The total number of patients with renal dialysis support in the governorate is 197.

Among them 159 are in Salalah followed by 17 in Taqah, six in Mirbat, four in Rakhyout and three in Mazyounah.

Sultan Qaboos Hospital is the only hospital in Dhofar Governorate where dialysis facility is available.

To make this facility available in other hospitals of the Governorate, the Ministry of Health is in talks with private sector companies and first agreement in this regard has been signed recently with Raysut Cement for Taqah Hospital.

Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) has committed to build a dialysis unit as part of expansion of the Thamrait Health Centre to serve the community in a better way.
