SALALAH, May 16 - Salalah and western parts of Dhofar witnessed sudden change in weather on Wednesday morning and some parts of them received sporadic rains. The western parts of Dhofar Governorate like Rakhyout and Dalkhout received rains at about 11 am while some areas in Salalah witnessed sporadic rains. A weather report from Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) categorised the weather condition as ‘Tropical low pressure’.
As per latest observations and satellite images “there is a low pressure with surface wind speed of 17 knots located south west of the Arabian Sea near Socotra Island, at latitude 11.5 degrees North and longitude 53.5 degrees East. It is moving westerly to northwesterly towards Gulf of Aden in 24 hours without any direct effect on the Sultanate,” the PACA report released at 11 am said.
“Isolated rain with occasional thundershowers over Dhofar Governorate is expected today. The sea will be moderate to rough along Dhofar and Al Wusta coastal areas with maximum wave height of 3 metres,” the report said.
The PACA advised people to follow weather bulletins and take necessary precautions regarding
winds and flash floods. It also advised sailors to make sure about sea state before sailing.
