MUSCAT, JAN 28 - The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) hosted the second edition of the Electric Submersible Pumps (ESP) workshop in Oman last week, under the auspices of Salim al Aufi, Under-Secretary, Ministry of Oil and Gas. The workshop welcomed 98 delegates from 39 companies and 17 countries. The opening day started with a special keynote address by Al Aufi, who as part of his speech said: “We must do more with less. During the low oil times, we drilled more wells with less rigs by focusing on waste and reducing non-productive time. Furthermore, alliances with contractors and suppliers help develop companies and generate in-country value. We must learn from the times of the low oil price and continue to do more with less for a sustainable future.”

The agenda also included two panel sessions where panelists addressed topics such as: ‘Lower for Longer’ and ‘In-Country Value/Local Content: Towards Effective Implementation’. Over seven technical sessions, the workshop brought together subject-matter experts and industry leaders who discussed standards and practices, current technical challenges and mitigations, technological advancements, surveillance and optimisation, operational efficiency, and the electricity aspect on ESPs, amongst other important topics, enabling efforts to maximise ESP lifting value and excellence.
