MUSCAT: The Ambassador of Spain to the Sultanate of Oman, José Antonio Bordallo Huidobro, visited Sultan Qaboos University for the official launching of the MAEC-AECID Lectureship of Spanish Language at SQU.

During his visit, the Ambassador was received by HH Dr Mona bint Fahd al Said, Assistant Vice- Chancellor for International Cooperation at SQU, and other members of the administration and the faculty.

Through its partnership with Sultan Qaboos University, the Spanish embassy contributes to the introduction of Spanish language teaching into Oman leading higher education institution (SQU) as an elective course, by supporting the work of a highly qualified native lecturer.

The MAEC-AECID (Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation & Development) Lectureships are one of the flagship programmes of Spain’s cultural cooperation abroad. They aim at increasing the interest in Spanish studies at Universities all over the world, by providing language training, opportunities for research and networking with higher education institutions in Spain, as well as a better appreciation for Spanish culture.

José Antonio Bordallo Huidobro said that the Embassy of Spain looks forward to a successful development of the lectureship at SQU, which should contribute further to the long-standing friendship between the Sultanate of Oman, Spain and the Spanish-speaking world.

Dr Mona thanked the Spanish Embassy in Oman and AECID for supporting Sultan Qaboos University in introducing a course in Spanish language offered through the Department of Tourism of the College of Arts and Social Sciences. The course is well accepted by the students and already 75 students have registered for the course.
