The draw for the 2018 World Cup is to be made on December 1 and both Spain and England look to be losing their battle to make it into Group One, the Spanish Marca newspaper said.
With the all decisive final adjustment to the FIFA World Rankings taking place on October 16, Spain currently sits 11th and
while England is down in the 15th position, finding the likes of Poland, Portugal and Argentina above them.
While much derided, the rankings are final and have Mexico, Colombia and recent semi-finalists Uruguay also stuck in Group Two
ahead of the final places being filled.
Down in Group three are Iceland, Egypt, Costa Rica and Iran, leaving Serbia, Nigeria, Japan, South Korea, Panama and Saudi Arabia in Group Four at this moment in time.
A number of teams, including Costa Rica, Iceland, Serbia, Japan and Nigeria are capable of making into the higher tiers as the final sides qualify.
All teams currently capable of making it to Group One as Italy, Switzerland, Peru and Croatia may go drop to Group two.
