Muscat: After reaching the podium in 3rd place in the third round of UAE local rally in Ras Al Khaimah last April, Omani rally driver Khalid Soomar, who is leading the championship with 51 points with his co-driver Issa al Wardi on Mitsubishi EVO 7, will take part in the fourth round of UAE local rally this weekend. The rally will take place in Al Dhaid in Sharjah, which consists of two stages. Hamed al Qasimi will participate in his Mitsubishi EVO 8 with his co-driver Mohammed al Mazroui. Both drivers have the chance to be on the podium in Group N as both of them have knowledge on Emirates rallies.

Hope for podium

Khalid Soomar, who is first overall in Emirates rally championship this year up to round three, is glad to stand in the top position hoping to finish the rally in the first row and continue leading with good difference in points. He said, “I will try my best to be in podium for first position, but this is a race which means that anything can happen in between. I do have some problems in the car, but overall I am ready to compete for podium finish”. He continued, “I would like to thank Target Co. for their support in this season and wish everyone in the rally to finish the race in safe.”

Hamed al Qasimi, an Omani driver, said, “There are no supporter and sponsorship available for me this season, so I find it very difficult to participate on my own cost without financial support as I lost my car engine in last week in Oman rally”.

“Thanks for Sheikh Abdullah al Qasimi from UAE for his personal support to all Omani drivers in UAE rally championship,” Hamed al Qasimi added.
