The event was attended also by Dr Awad bin Ali Al Mammari, College Dean, Dr Bushra bint Mubarak Al Hasni Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs and Scientific Research and Dr Qasim bin Mohammed Al Mammari, IT Programme Director in the Ministry of Higher Education.

The First Research Day event aims to foster the significance of the scientific research in the academic establishments which cover issues of local and global concerns as well as to encourage researchers to establish scientific relationships with other colleagues from other research disciplines.

The event also provided great research platform for researchers to share their research ideas.

The event has been divided into two sections.

The first section has witnessed presentations of already published papers in academia last semester, followed by another 10 presentations of research proposals that have been approved by the research committee in Sohar College to be funded during the academic year 2017-2018.

These research proposals have covered various topics of local issues related to the Sultanate.

Dr Hilal Al Moqbali, Head of the Scientific Research Department, delivered the welcome speech which was followed by the speech from Dr Said Al Hadabi.

Dr Bushra bint Mubarak al Hasni, Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs and Scientific Research, in her speech welcomed the audience and talked about the college initiatives in providing financial grant on annual basis to encourage academic staff to contribute in the scientific research.

Another workshop was held as part of the First Research Day activities presented by Dr Hanifa al Qasmi, Head of the Department of General Requirements, who gave an informative seminar about a brilliant tool in writing academic papers known as ‘Latex’, which is a highly recognised tool by a wide range of international conferences and magazines for writing scientific research.

In the light of the First Research Day in Sohar College, Dr Hilal Al Maqbali said, “Such an event is considered to be one of its kind to be held in Al Batinah Governorate and we aim in organising this event to bridge between academic researchers and provide a good platform to share research ideas related to local issues and how should be tackled.

Also such an event is a good gathering to build research relationships among academics for future contribution”.
