Today technology of all forms is used by millions of people every day in different spheres of life. Just imagine how life would look like without it. Will people be comfortable as they are today? Will people be more connected socially with each other? Will there be many scientific advances? Definitely. Without technology, the world will be a completely different place. With the onslaught of technology on our day-to-day life, you see almost everyone being connected in one way or the other. Wherever you go, just observe how people around you are spending their time. Either they are using their mobile phones, iPads or laptops. Wherever and whenever they get some free time, technology is always there as a relief. As a matter of fact, it’s becoming an addiction.

With the emergence of new technological applications, people are getting much busier than before. As social media is becoming a trend nowadays among people of all ages, you hardly find a person without being connected on social media platforms. You can’t imagine how people are getting fascinated by those platforms. Schoolchildren are also fascinated by social media. Many are having accounts on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

The availability of all these social media platforms on the mobile is what makes people to get addicted. People are getting more connected to their devices than with each other. Their socialisation is becoming much easier because of social media and technology. It’s frightening.

Among the most commonly used social media platforms is WhatsApp. Its chats and messages are becoming talk of the town and everyone’s source of interest today. It’s becoming the most important application that everyone has to have on the mobile phone. People are spending not just their free time on WhatsApp, but even while at work or home, they never disconnect from it.

WhatsApp or other social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram are what people are getting addicted to. They are tweeting and instagraming every single thing that happens to them regardless of its significance. Despite how personal a post is or not, what matters to them is getting them publicised among friends and followers.

In some cases, employees sacrifice their working hours on chatting and enjoying their time with peers and fans. What is upsetting more is social media is affecting people’s social life. It even affects their ethics and values.

Although, it helps create friendships and partnerships, it can also break relationships and destroy careers.

People should realise that technology has been invented to making their lives easier. On the other hand, it has seen unwanted results, including impacting our social life. Its influence on society can be seen in how people use technology and its ethical significance in society.

With social media, I believe it’s what you make. You make it or break it. If you do something that you are not proud of, at the end of the day, you have only yourself to blame if that information comes round to bite you. Thus, be cautious when pressing the button on any social media platform.
